Get ready for the ultimate clash as Emirates Dubai 7s today announce the pools and match schedule for the men’s and women’s rugby at the first leg of HSBC SVNS 2025

Dubai, 7 November 2024: Organisers of Emirates Dubai 7s have today announced the pools and match schedule for the men’s and women’s rugby at the first leg of HSBC SVNS 2025.

On the 30th of November and the 1st of December, The Sevens Stadium will welcome the 12 best men’s and women’s international rugby sevens teams for the series-opener, in what will be the first matches since a record-breaking viewing success at Paris 2024 where more than 530,000 rugby fans attended, and tens of millions around the globe tuned in. 

On the Saturday, matches will be played on Pitches 1 and 2 with the top two teams in each pool, and the two best third-placed sides, advancing to the quarterfinals. On Sunday, fans can catch the cup finals (women’s at 19:35 and men’s at 20:11), followed by the awards presentation and closing out the weekend, global award-winning artist Stormzy will perform on the ‘Frequency on 8’ stage at 21:30. 

Women’s Tournament

Day 1 kicks off with newly crowned Olympic champions New Zealand taking on Brazil at 9:00am on Pitch 2, whilst silver medallists Canada open against Japan on Pitch 1. The morning session also includes major encounters including USA v Great Britain (9:22), Ireland v Fiji (9:44am) and Australia against HSBC SVNS newcomers China (9.44am). 

Other schedule highlights include a repeat of the Olympic final between New Zealand and Canada at 16:07, France taking on Olympic bronze medallists, the USA at 16:51pm, and Australia versus Ireland at 17:35pm.

Men’s Tournament

 

Kicking off the men’s tournament on Day 1 will be the All Blacks taking on the USA at 10:06. At 10.28am fans can expect an all-South American affair between 2023 / 2024 Series League Winners, Argentina and resilient Uruguay. Following a hattrick of successive Emirates Dubai 7s triumphs, South Africa will take on Australia at 10:50. 

 

An action-packed Day 1 concludes with the final round of the Pool phase where Fiji takes on the All Blacks, Argentina face Ireland and finally, Olympic Champions, France take on South Africa at 20:44.

 

Following an intense first day of rugby action, fans can make their way from the stadium to the ‘Rugby Rocks’ stage for the headline Saturday set from British pop band the Sugababes, who will be treating fans to all their noughties classics. 

 

Mathew Tait, Festival Director of Dubai 7s, said: “Drawing the fixtures we have for the first round of HSBC SVNS 2025 will undoubtedly deliver a lot of excitement for sports fans around the world. This will be the first time that teams have played at this level since the Paris Olympics in the summer, and with so many stars of the sevens to watch, it’s going to be another action-packed weekend!” 

As well as the elite matches, the Emirates Dubai 7s packed schedule also includes a number of Invitational tournaments to spectate. Across the three-day festival and just ahead of the UAE National Day on Monday 2nd December, there will be 16 rugby tournaments, 6 netball competitions, 2 cricket and 3 fitness tournaments, as well as 6 padel tennis competitions, attracting nearly 6,500 athletes. In addition to watching the action, spectators can attend sporting masterclasses conducted by Emirates Dubai 7s professional sports ambassadors from the worlds of rugby and cricket.
