150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Embassy of India, Muscat, will be organizing a series of activities in commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Indian Nation, during the period 2nd October 2018-2nd October 2020.

The inaugural event will be held at the Grand Millennium Hotel, Muscat on 2nd October, which is also commemorated as the United Nations International Day of Non-violence. The event is being organized by the Embassy of India in association with Raja Yoga Centre for Self Development and will be graced by H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Said bin Saif al-Kalbani, Minister of Social Development of the Sultanate of Oman, as its Chief Guest. Several other dignitaries, officials, representatives of diplomatic community as well as members of Indian and Omani community are expected to join. Renowned motivational speaker Brahma Kumari Shivani Verma, popularly known as Sister Shivani, will deliver a special message of peace during the celebration. Other highlights of the event include release of Indian postal stamps in commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi; screening of a special video on messages from the life of Mahatma Gandhi as well as a video of devotional song “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye Je” in the voice of popular Omani singer Haitham Mohammed Rafi.

Following the celebration on 2nd October 2018, the Indian Embassy will organize a number of other events and activities over the next two years as part of commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. These include monthly online quiz competition; screening of documentaries on Ganhiji; talk show; interaction with schools students and distribution of books on life and work of Gandhiji; planting of trees on World Environment Day; an exhibition of Khadi products; a vegetarian food festival, etc.
